3rd June 2021 : Phil Bowell & Brian Culver meeting Clive Clemson

Flight over Sussex, Surrey & Hampshire

Trip report and photos by Phil Bowell

We had a wonderful day yesterday. I won a flight in G-CHIP in an auction and yesterday was the day to redeem.

The aircraft is owned by a small group of pilots and volunteers who operate & maintain the aircraft at Shoreham Airport, officially known as Brighton City Airport Limited (BCAL).

Richard Heywood our pilot, Brian Culver & I (all ex BCAL) flew out of Shoreham and up north over Gatwick before turning SW over Dunsfold and Goodwood then landing on the Isle of Wight at Sandown.

On the return, we flew back over the Solent, over Portsmouth then along the coast, flying over Arundel Castle before landing back at Shoreham.

Gatwick was an amazing site - parking slots filled and the taxiways and airspace completely empty. On landing at Sandown, we met up with another ex BCAL colleague, Clive Clemson for lunch and a chat.

At Portsmouth we saw the second of the new Royal Navy Carriers, HMS Prince of Wales and the Castle at Arundel was certainly larger than I recall.

Had a fantastic day and the aircraft, G-CHIP looked beautiful in the BCAL colour scheme.

My thanks to Richard for a great day.

P.S. Sandown do a great pizza
