Michael "Mick" Morgan : BCal Avionics Engineer & Fleet Technical Engineer with BA
Sadly Mick passed away in December 2024, my sincere condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues.

Mick joined BUA in Sept '63 on their first 5 Year Indentured Apprenticeship scheme with 5 others. He went to Brooklands Technical College, Weybridge with Vickers Apprentices, as there wasn't enough to fill a class from BUA. Later he joined Dave Sturney in Las Palmas for 6 months at the end of the Apprenticeship turning round the South American VC10's, and the West African 1-11's.

Returning to Gatwick at the end of the 6 months, he got Electrical Licences on the 1-11 and B707, and became an Avionic Supervisor on the Ramp. He remained in that role, with British Caledonian, and then BA, becoming a Fleet Technical Engineer before taking early retirement in October 2003. In his 40 year career he worked on the Britannia, Viscount, and DC-6 through to the B747-200, and B777.

From Paul Funnell
I was very sad and stunned to hear the news as I was only thinking of him just a few days ago. I remember meeting him for the first time in Las Palmas when it was my summer holiday with my parents and I was already lined up to join BUA as an apprentice in September 1969, so I was quite taken as to what he was doing in Las Palmas and what lay ahead for my future. I remember him as such a very likeable and amiable gentleman. Never really got to meet up with him on line but knew he was always a very well respected engineer. Where do all the years go?

RIP Mick and so glad to have met you and your inspiration that helped me to follow in your footsteps. I know that my Dad, Ken, would have also wanted to pass on his sincere and heartfelt condolences, but then who knows, they may already know.

From Jim Wilson:
Have known Mick since our apprentice ship days, always a gentleman and well respected. R.I.P my friend

From Ian Lucas:
RIP, fly high

From Ian Haines
Sad news! He was groomed for stardom after his apprenticeship, then to his overseas service for BUA. Mick was quite happy on his return to the BUA Line Operation with a team of Avionics under his control. Michael was always a joy to work with. RIP MICK. Condolences  to his family.
