Deepest sympathies. I originally heard of him via my Mum who worked in a shop in Crawley frequented by your parents. He often chatted to her and showed a genuine interest in how I was getting on during my early years at BCal. In later years I got to know him too. Lovely man. RIP

I worked with Bert when he was a duty manager at Gatwick. He was affectionately called ‘little round Bertie’. Not in a derogatory way - he was a lovely man to work for, hard, but fair. I once arrived late for work having got stuck in Paris overnight. He made me go home to get into uniform and start my 8hr shift when I got back to the airport!  RIP

From Diane Playford
Such sad news, I always enjoyed working with him in passenger services, great sense of humour. My first encounter with him though was whilst he was working in Flight Watch and I called up from Arrivals as a man had come to the desk to ask to hire a light aircraft, which was handled by Flight Watch and I spoke to Him. Little did we know that would end up with us both giving evidence at the Old Bailey as this man had robbed and set fire to a railway station! I was very grateful Bert was there as I was terrified and he was a rock. My deepest sympathies he was a lovely person.
