Peter Trowsdale : Captain
Sadly Captain Trowsdale passed away suddenly in Mid-December 2022, aged 90. My sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and former colleagues.

Peter fulfilled his national service in the Fleet Air arm, flying Sea Hawks in the early days of UK jet aircraft carrier operations on HMS Eagle.

His first civilian flying job was with British Air Ferries, flying the Bristol Freighter and Carvair. Various mergers and acquisitions led to British Caledonian where he flew the 707 as both First Officer and Captain.

After a spell on the DC10, he finally ended up on the 747 which he continued to fly for a few years after the BA/BCal merger.

Peter retired in 1990 and enjoyed a long and healthy retirement with his wife Doreen; until her sad decline due to dementia and subsequent passing last year (2021).

Peter's flying legacy continues through his 6 children (including 3 Captains and 1 ex Purser), 17 grandchildren (including 4 pilots) and 4 great grandchildren (so far...).

To the right, Peter, with Doreen, at their home.
Service details

Peter's funeral was held on 28th December 2022 in the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Rustington, West Sussex.

The family extended a welcome to join them for the service.

Another thoroughly good man leaves the earthly runway. I flew with Peter on both DC10 and 747 trips. Unflappable and approachable, along with an excellent standard of airmanship, Captain Trowsdale was a name to treasure on any trip schedule. RIP Skipper.
