Lynda Isted : Legal Secretary to Hugh Garety
Sadly, after a long illness, it’s with great sadness that I have to report the death of Lynda Isted who passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11 2023. My sincere condolences to her family, friends and former colleagues.
Lynda started off her working life with B.CAL following in her father Arthur’s footsteps and then joined by her brother Bob several years later. Sadly both have also passed.
Lynda worked in the Legal Department as a secretary and ended up working for Hugh Garety who was the Legal Director on the 7th floor of Caledonian House.
Service details
Lynda’s service was held on Monday 6th March 2023 at the Surrey & Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Rd, Crawley
Afterwards there was a gathering at The Archway Theatre in Horley
Any donations in memory of Lynda should go to the Stoneman Funeral Directors at Doran Court, Reigate Road, Redhill, RH1 6AZ who will pass them on to The Archway Theatre.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Lynda's death. I joined BCal in 1979 as a solicitor and it was my very good fortune that Lynda became my secretary in the legal department. She had a warm and friendly personality and was much liked by all those who came into contact with her. She was reliable and hardworking, frequently working late into the night and at the weekends. She was highly intelligent (she was always spotting my mistakes!) with good judgment and integrity and would herself have made an excellent lawyer - I did try to persuade her to train as a solicitor. After BCal was acquired by BA I returned to private practice - happily Lynda came with me and continued as my secretary for a further more than 20 years at London law firms where she was liked and respected by colleagues and clients alike. My condolences to Idris and all her family and friends on this great loss.

She worked in the Legal Department as a secretary and ended up working for Hugh Garety who was the Legal Director on the 7th floor of Caledonian House. After the merger with BA Lynda continued to work for Hugh in London.
In 2009 Lynda married Idris Demir and they lived happily together in Horley. After her retirement Lynda continued to meet up with all her old friends from B.CAL at various local pubs ! She was a good friend and will be sorely missed.

I'm really shocked and saddened to hear about the sad passing of Lynda, I worked alongside Lynda in the Legal Department both in the Admin block at LGW and then we moved to Caledonian House, 7th Floor in the early 80s. Linda always kept in touch with me via email keeping me up to date with any news. Sadly I lost touch with her a few years ago.
