Bob Uttley : Chef - Flight Catering Unit
Sadly Bob passed in September 2022 in Darwin where he lived. Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Chris, his family and friends.

Bob worked for BUA and then BCAL in the Flight Catering unit. After the closing of In-Flight Catering, Bob & Chris decided to move “Down Under” and bought a property in Darwin where they stayed for the rest of their days. Bob spent the rest of his career working on oil rigs.

Bob Remembered

From Phil & Pauline Bowell
Bob worked for BUA and then BCAL in the Flight Catering unit. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Bob when I was also in Catering. He was a baker and a very good one. Cakes, gateau’s and all sorts of deserts & pastries which we BUA and BCAL became famous for, were a speciality and he was very good at his art.

In the early 70’s, Bob, his wife Chris (who worked in Reservations) and I all went to the first meeting of the self build group which became Golden Lion Self Build Housing Association. We all joined the first committee with Bob and Chris looking after Finance which they did till the successful conclusion of the group.

During the self-build, the building inspector for Horsham District Council made regular visits to the site to ensure our standards were high. He once commented that the screed on our floors were the smoothest he had ever seen and asked where we got such expertise. When we introduced Bob to him and advised he was the reason for the quality. I will never forget the look on the inspector's face when told him Bob learnt his art by “icing cakes” for BCAL. He had an eye for a level.

After the closing of In-Flight Catering, Bob & Chris decided to move “Down Under” and bought a property in Darwin where they stayed for the rest of their days. Bob spent the rest of his career working on oil rigs.

We last saw Bob and Chris in March 2016 when the cruise we were on stopped in Darwin. Bob and Chris took us out for the day looking for crocodiles. We did find them. Our best wishes go to Chris for her sad loss.
