From Alan Robinson  (Robbie's son)
My dad joined Silver City at Lydd in 1957 after serving 8 years in the Royal Air Force as a Sergeant Pilot. At Silver City / BUA he flew Bristol Freighters until 1968 when he transferred to BUA at Gatwick and converted to the BAC111. He continued to fly the BAC111 for the remainder of his career. He retained his position after the take-over by British Airways and retired from the airline in 1990, aged 58, after 33 years of service for the company. Thereafter, he continued to fly the BAC111 for a further two years for Birmingham European Airways, until his final retirement at age 60.

At the time of the take-over at the beginning of 1988, Dad was number 7 on the BAC111 seniority list, and number 29 in the overall British Caledonian list. At the end of his career, he had flown more than 20,000 commercial flying hours and more than 2,000 military flying hours.

All of our family worked for British Caledonian over the years, my sister Sue Robinson as cabin crew, my wife Julia Hurlin as cabin crew and I worked for Curly Walter at British Caledonian Aircraft Trading.

From Bill Newman
I first met Robbie when we flew together from Lydd airport in 1966 and again later on the BAC 1-11 fleet at Gatwick. A relaxed and very competent pilot who was always ready to help and encourage us very young and junior co-pilots. I always enjoyed his company both on and off the aircraft. A good man who will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family and many friends.
