From Dyan Humphrey
Such sad news about Douglas. As can be seen by the numerous tributes he was much loved by all of us at BCAL, a totally unique character. I worked with Doug in the 70s and he would occasionally take me out for dinner. No fast food restaurant for Doug but the likes of Gravetye Manor!!! Two of his main loves were his pipe and Morgan cars. He always hoped he would own the latter but sadly I don't think his dream was ever achieved. Unexpectedly he sent me a letter and card on my birthday last year, it was so good to hear from him. Life hadn't been kind to him over the past years' but he still kept his sense of humour. He had been involved in charity and community work and said he had been asked to consider becoming a magistrate and also a councilor so obviously he was well thought of. Lots of lovely memories to keep. We will miss you Douglas.
From Jenny Holland: Sad news to hear, it was always a pleasure to board a flight Doug was also working.
From Alan Comber: Sad news to hear about Dougie - such a character, always with his pipe, alight or not !!
From Hugh Cowan
I worked with Dougie often especially over setting up Touchdown in Maintrol. As Dougie predicted, we never accidentally called the old lady in Japan again!
From Peter Thompson
Douglas was definitely in the top drawer of all the many amazing people that made up BCAL, extremely sorry to learn of his final take-off. Always around at the right time and with his constant affable manner calmed Operational stress on many occasions, pipe in one hand keyboard in the other you knew you were on a winner. Have a well deserved good rest Douglas.
From Colin Varty: So sorry to hear about Dougie. I remember him as a redcap, lovely natured guy.
From Caroline Shiels (nee Short): RIP Doug. A true gentleman
From Ken Lownds : RIP Dougie
From Trevor Gunn:
Well Douglas I know you enjoyed your IT work with both BCAL and SITA so I expect you were having a laugh about the transmission problems before your departure. Fly high and blue skies.
